Second Decimal project, Located in the heart of Beirut, Second Decimal is a home for a family of five and includes two living areas, a dining room, a family room, three bedrooms, a kitchen and three bathrooms.
With a general vibe of modernity and warmth, the pied-à-terre for the family’s visits to Beirut was designed to be a modern city house that is practical, welcoming and comfortable. The works on the apartment began as the building was still in progress, which allowed some room for changes and upgrades. The studio assisted in the various phases of design including circulation, electro-mechanical, tiling, lighting plan, false ceiling as well as furniture layout and design.
The entrance lobby features two art deco inspired hand painted sliver leaf and hand patina panels hiding a cloak closet. The indirect lighting around the panels brings about a bright warm feeling. At the far end of the lobby, Modesty, a FORMITABLE© from the studio’s exclusive line of limited edition tables, stands proudly to welcome you into the home.
The two saloons, created in shades of grey, boast custom made furniture by the studio to create a beautiful fusion of modern, warmth and practicality. The walls feature Lizzo and Portofino wallpaper that spread all over the house to create unity. Bright colored artworks bring a pop to the whole area and the floors are heightened with unique carpets from the Avant Guard Collection by Nalbadian. The curtains are made of white sheer fabric and covered by grey sheer fabric panels. A curved TV unit, made of French oak veneer painted in various shades of grey pops from a wall painted with silver leaf and hand patina. Scattered around, Mystery, Uphill, Hybrid, Outside In, Elevations, Overlap and Ikigai, from the FORMITABLE© collection add a sculptural touch to the space. Perhaps one of the most interesting feature of the living area is its ceiling. The 3d lined sculpture converges into the bespoke lighting element Salonica by Iris bringing the whole space together.
The custom-made dining vitrine features elevated cupboards on the walls enclosed by a hand painted patina frame with indirect lighting. On the left, a hidden service door facilitated the dining experience while on the right, hidden cabinet allow for extra storage. Modern accessories from high end brand accentuate the space. In the middle, Engage, yet another FORMITABLE© piece with its matching chairs, fits around 6 people for a beautiful meal.
The guest bathroom includes classical wallpaper, modern bathroom amenities and a marble countertop. The kitchen, which was already in place was upgraded in material to insure durability, convenience and flow.
The Family room, for more intimate gatherings, was created in shades of grey with pops of warm blues bringing about a relaxing and happy feel. The room features two hand painted panels with geometrical patterns, one of which hides an emergency exit. The corner L- shaped couch was custom made to fit the space. Flair, a versatile table from FORMITABLE completes the look.
The master bedroom includes a custom-made bed featuring a unique headboard that allies velvet with stainless steel mirror in special patterns. The night tables stand on the wall, elevated from the floor and include inside lighting. The dressing table, serves its purpose all the while adding extra storage space and the curtains, made of velvet and silk for a warmer approach. A unique chandelier, Chlorophilia 2, from Artemide hangs adds an artistic touch to the room.
The kids’ bedroom, made for two boys, includes two beds and a TV unit that doubles as storage space. The bed’s head boards that take over the wall are made of leather with curved stitching. The curtains are over lapping sheer fabrics of different texture. The bed covers and cushions include a modern motif. The facing TV unit, made of lacquered wood, with curved elements in two shades that hide the closet’s handles.
The second kids’ bedroom, though dedicated for just the eldest, also featured two beds, with white lacquered wood and leather headboards and include indirect lighting within them. The night table that sits between both beds is elevated from the floor. Curtains in Japanese panels style, create privacy.
The boys share a bathroom, made of white ceramics with a unique shower created with mosaic tiles of black and grey marble couple with stainless steel.
“Creating a secondary home is always a challenge. The residents need to feel at home all the while have the new/change vacation feel. I believe Second Decimal answered both needs perfectly,” explains Wael Farran, founder and lead designer.
